Rutter & Allhusen, Accountants want you to be aware of a new phishing scam that has come to light. Fraudsters are sending emails claiming to be from HMRC including an attachment called ‘Your 2016 Tax Report’ please do not open the attachment. The emails do look convincing but please be assured that there are no reports being sent by email from HMRC. If you have any doubts about an email you can forward it to phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk and they will confirm whether it is genuine. Stay safe online

Rutter & Allhusen, Accountants recommend that you keep your anti-virus software up to date. Please be aware that HMRC will not email you about a tax repayment and will never ask for your bank details by email. You will never be asked to give your password out via email from HMRC.

Rutter & Allhusen are also aware that text messages have also been used in order to collect information. The 2 step verification service now uses a text message to send a code so that you can log in to online services. You never need to reply to a text message from HMRC!

If you have any queries regarding your tax position please contact Rutter & Allhusen, Accountants at our Shaftesbury Dorset office on 01747 852903.
